Freelance music writer and camera clicker
In seven years as a music writer I have built a community as ‘Girl Underground’ and followed the local scene closely. This opened the door to booking, collaborations, and independent relationships with publicists.
I am a WordPress aficionado! I have blogged for years, roughly ten, and professionally contributed for five. I recently picked up photography and have also worked on press kits for artists, primarily their bios for EPK’s.
My portfolio showcases various projects created throughout my music writing career. Personal projects, music reviews and interviews, and portraits will also be featured.
My name is Janette Ayub and I am a freelance music writer within the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley. I originally started out as an on-air disc jockey for the local non-commercial radio station, 88.7 F.M. KSPC, and simultaneously paired my show with a music blog, Girl Underground Music.
Since then, my lazy eye and I have built the site, trained contributing writers, booked shows (raising money for notable charities for some), and have been very active within the local community.
I have contributed to outside publications due to my general love of music, and have been featured in sites such as EARMILK, LADYGUNN, and Live Nation’s ‘One’s to Watch.’ My poetry has also been published in the “Latino Book Review” Magazine for the February, 2020 edition.
I tend to write in a passive voice and emphasize women and Latin artists (I am who I am). And because I’m not busy enough, I’ve recently began to lend my production skills to the Sketched Sounds podcast.
